In the UK every year, approximately 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health condition.

In the workplace, at least 1 in 6 employees experience common mental health problems.

1 in 6 children aged 5 to 16 have a probable mental health condition.

The economic and social cost of poor mental health is around £105 billion per year in England alone.

In 2018, there were 600,000 cases of work-related stress, depression or anxiety.

Mental health is a major issue and all employers, businesses and voluntary organisations have a moral, and increasingly a statutory, responsibility to take action to support their staff.  In the same way as with physical first aid, this process begins with having staff trained to recognise the signs and symptoms of poor mental health who can then take action.  These first aiders for mental health can help a business to ensure that its staff are properly cared for, both for the sake of the individuals and for overall business success.
